THE HISTORY OF ETIQUETTE
A great part of today's formal etiquette originated in the French royal court during the 1600-1700's.
"King Louis XIV devised and posted rules for all to follow (such as daily functions, giving time, place and proper dress) at Versailles as an "étiquette" - a French word meaning "ticket" - to help the nobles know what to do. It brought order to court society, and the code of behavior was adopted by the courts of other nation's monarchs." (Source: The World Book Encyclopedia, 2000).
Today, etiquette means proper behavior and is still your “ticket” to success!
